All,
Thank God, the GC step is done and glad that there is one less thing in life to be concerned. Since the attorneys do not have updated info or pretend to be busy, this site was extremely helpful. Anyways.. above said being nothing new... here are some of my experiences.
0. Do not lose sleep over the fact that you did not receive the appointment letter if you have specified US based address. The consulate, the doctor, Lister Labs accept the printout from the Chennai website stating your appointment date.
1. Do not lose sleep over the order of documents here in US... the consulate circulates a sheet when you are there which has an order lot different from what I have seen floating around in the boards.. relax.. you have tons of time to get the docs in order.
2. In Chennai consulate, there is a fee of Rs. 350 for courier charges. The consulate mails the packet and the passports to the specified home address (which you give it to them at the consulate by writing on a self adhesive label). The fee may also be paid in Cash.
3. Lister Lab's (Lab tests center) has a corporate office which is few houses away from the one for rest of the public. We need to get tested at the Corporate office.
4. Dr. Rajkumar was nice enough to waive the vaccinations based on the documentation I provided that I took the same earlier.
5. No vehicles are allowed to be parked in front of the consulate these days due to security reasons.
6. When returning to US, at the Port of Entry, you need to stand in the visitors / Non-permanent residents queue. There is no need to fill the I - 94 card however (given out in the flight). The customs form needs to be filled however.
If I think of anything else.. I will post. I will try to respond to any queries about the process but may take some time before doing so..
Good luck to all the applicants.. CP is a straight forward process as long as you have been in good legal status in US and have all the documentation required.
