CP or AOS?

I had my I-140 approved for Consular Processing in October\'2001. I received the packet3 from NVC in Nov\'2001. Still I didn\'t send the pkt3 to the consulate. Now I am ready to do that. But now I had some thoughts of filing I-485 for AOS. Am I allowed to do that? If so, which one is the best thing to do? Any advice?
