Hello Everyone,

I am mainly a silent observer of this awesome portal and have learnt a lot from all of you. I am posting this article for the benefit of everybody and as I need to as well understand CP process in detail... since, like you, I am on that path too! I am going to describe "how to" of CP step by step as I know it and please correct me and fill in the blank and let's help each other. Thank you all in advance for your contributions.

1. Apply for Labor certification and approval (In my case RD = June 5th 2001, AP = August 6th 2002 for EB2 from Boston, MA)

2. Apply for I-140 and get approved. ( my RD = Sept 2nd 2002, AD = waiting :-) ). I have also indicated that I want to go for CP at Mumbai, India.

Now, my speculations begin....

3. Once I-140 is approved (which I expect in about 2-3 months from RD, right?), the documents will be passed to NVC (isn't it?) How long does it typically take for this?

4. NVC gets back to me with the packet 3, how long does this take?

5. I need to send the packet back to NVC so that they will inturn pass it on to consulate in Mumbai, right? How long again?

6. Once Consulate gets the application we can expect interview date in about 2 months (right?)

Can you please fill in the times required at each stage based on your experience/ knowledge? I am trying to find how long after I-140 is approved can I expect an interview? 3 month? 4 months???

Also, I read about PCC, I-824 and I-864 forms on the postings. While I wait for I-140 approval, can I take care of any such issues so as to not delay CP process? Like, is it a good idea to get PCC done right now (from NYC Indian Consulate)? Any suggestions are welcome.

I am sure everybody's case is unique in some form... and so is mine. My wife is in India and I am in US and that will be so for next 8-10 month after which she joins me in US. I want to go for CP before that. Any ideas/suggestions about anything special I need to worry about? Any specific documents I/she needs to fill?

If you have been successful through CP, can you please atleast briefly jot down date of approval/milestones at each stage and also any tips for documents/filing?

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Visit cptracker.com

That will give you an idea about how long each stage takes. Typically, it will take about 6-7 months from your I140 approval date to the interview.

Ragarding PCC, you can get it done now if you wish. PCC is valid for a year. You may also want to wait until your I140 approval because PCC does not take more than 45 days anyway.

First of all I'm in the middle of CP process and my experience says, take a look at www.cptracker.com - u will get an idea of the time taken at each stage from I-140 approval . Since u r waiting for I-140 approval and ur spouse is in India, ask her to get PCC from local Police station and Regional P/Port office - thi might take longer time. The rest , e.g. UR PCC (as mentioned by "cpmumbai2002 ") from Indian consulate in US,won't take that long - still u can apply for them. What's about ur marriage and birth certificates ? If u don't have them handy, go for them - they also take some time.

Does cptracker.com work?

Thanx for your input. I have read about www.cptracker.com all over this portal, but this website doesn't seem to be working!! Everytime I have tried that I get a response "Cannot find Server"!! But, since so many people talk about this website (cptracker.com), I am confused whether this website exists atall??

Has anybody of you experienced something like this?

Yeah, for the last couple of days, seems it has gone fr hybernation. God knows when it is going to come up again !!! Let's hope for the best.
Till then , here is a recent rough times(most optimistics - most pessimistic times)
I-140 AD - NVC = 3 - 4 weeks
NVC(case creation) - You(pkt-3) = 2 -3 weeks
STL - NVC = 2-3 weeks
NVC - US Consulate in India = 2 -3 weeks
US Consulate in India - Interview Dt = 9 - 12 weeks

I retierate, this is a rough one and actual may vary. It's all luck man !!!
