My appointment time was 10:30am. Reached the consulate at 10:15am and was allowed to go in. One of the guards told me to go to Window #13 and so I went there. However, since I had already paid the $260 Visa Application fee in the US alongwith P3 the guy at W#13 told me to go to W#10. The officer at W#10 was very friendly and helpful. He told me to wait and that my name would be called. My name was called at 11:35am. Went to W#10 he asked for the documents one by one:
1. DS230 part2
2. medicals from Hinduja
3. birth cert
4. employer letter.
5. irs9003 form
6. pcc from indian consulate in US
7. pcc from local police in India.

There were some anomalies in my birth cert. and pcc from local police station so he told me that I might have to come back but it depended on the US Immigration officer. So he told me to wait for my name to be called for the interview. Waited another half hour. The US Immigration officer told me to take the oath and asked me the following questions:
1. what company do I work for
2. what is my position
3. since when have I been working for this company
4. do I intend to continue working for this company after returning

She then told me to get my birth certs and pcc rectified and come back. She gave me a piece of paper that said that the visa will be issued after the corrected certs are produced. There is a 1 year time frame to do this and can go back on any day at 7:45am.
She told me that the PCC from the local police is now absolutely compulsory and a couple of guys were also returned to obtain this.

Good luck to all.
ps: only need $65 visa issuance fee draft if you have already paid the $260 app fee in the US along with P3

Hey Kevin
I would appreciate if you could answer these questions.
(Others feel free to contribute if you know the answers or if there are any anomalies)
1. (29 on DS230-II - Name and Address of Petitioner) : Whats the answer for that for me and my spouse ?
According to me, for me it will be my employer ... and for my wife ... I don\'t know if it should be my name or my employer\'s ? Please verfiy ?

2. Q:33a regarding SSN ... I have answered YES that I have an SSN .... Now I do have a SSN card and do not require a new one .... but it says that
" Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you an SSN (and issue a card)
or issue you a new card (if you have an SSN)? You must answer "Yes" to this question
and to the "Consent To Disclosure" in order to receive an SSN and/or card.
"
Should I be answering Yes or NO ? Please verify the same for 33a and 33b.

I-134 Questions

Do me and my spouse both have to fill in the I-134?
If Yes,...
We both are working and so how do we fill in I-134 .....
Should I be the one who is being sworn and should I mention my name as being the person for whom the affidavit is being executed ?
Should my spouse do the same too (since she is working also) ?
Or should I execute the affidavit for my spouse since she is dependent on me for getting the immigrant visa ?

Please clarify you all .
Thanks,
Ramrak.

update and some answers

Managed to obtain a local PCC...costed me Rs200. Rs100 application fee and Rs100 bribe. It took me 2 days and several trips to the local police station.
Anyways went back to the Consulate yesterday...reached at 7:20am. Already a line about 60 people long for pending docs had formed. Stood in this line. They started letting people in at 7:35am and my turn came at around 7:42am. Reached Counter #9 at around 8:00am. The lady collected the pending docs/visa refused letter, local pcc, and passport and told me to wait till my name was called. Name got called at 12:30pm. The same lady gave me a blue slip saying that the visa was issued and I should pay my fees at counter #14. Unfortunately the counter was closed and we were told to come back at 1:15pm and so I went out to grab a bite....a small mistake, since the guards were not aware of letting me back in. Anyway persuaded him to let me back in, went to the counter....there was a line there and paid my fees at around 1:45pm. The guy at the counter told me that the passport could be collected at 3:00pm outside. So went and roamed around Breach Candy shopping area and came back at 3:00pm....again a line. Coming back at 3:00pm is a BIG mistake. They started giving the passports only after 4:15pm and the wait in the scorching sun and heat is just plain torture. NEVER GO BEFORE 4:15PM.

Other details:
the current exchange rate for buying Rs is 49.90 for $1.00.
my other expenses were:
hinduja medicals - Rs1700.00
snaps at my own studio - Rs.100.00 - 4 snaps (never get rejected).
I had other CAB costs of approx. Rs. 1500.00 this is because I had around 4 trips to the Breach Candy area from Andheri. No living expenses as I stayed with relatives.
I got the draft at the Indian Overseas Bank right across from the Consulate. It takes about 15mins. The draft was made to the American Consulate General, Mumbai. The bank charges Rs.100.00 for fees. The bank timings are 9:00am to 2:00pm so if your appointment is after 9:30am you can get the draft the same day in the morning...and that is ofcourse if you also like to live a little dangerously.

If you\'ve already paid the $260 visa application fee along with your p3 application to the NVC you don\'t need that here.

GUYS PLEASE TAKE THE LOCAL PCC WITH YOU. THE 2ND VISIT TO THE CONSULATE IS A SHEER WASTE OF TIME, MONEY AND ENERGY AND FOR NOTHING. THEY DON\'T EVEN READ THE PCC.

Draft for local pcc

--------------------POLICE CERTIFICATE------------------
this is to certify that Mr.xyz, who is a resident of abc(complete address) from 123 to till date has not come to any adverse notice.
We are issuing this certificate per his request for purposes of his application for immigrating to the US.

--------------------------------------------------------
This should be on the official letterhead of the police station and
signed and stamped by the head of that police station.

Ciao for now and good luck to all....lets see what happens at the POE.

pcc

Ideally yes. But if you pay the local police station enough or have good contacts, I\'m sure they will produce a certificate that states that you have no adverse record from birth to till date.

Ramrak: Info about I134

If you are the primary applicant you need to fill out the I 134 and get it notarized. (sign it before the notary)
Your wife does not need to fill one out.
Take her employment letter just in case - but most likely they will not ask for it.
The person for whom you are executing the affidavit is your wife.

The way I understan it - your company sponsors you.
You "sponsor" your wife.

Disclaimer - this is just my understanding - please confirm with lawyer or someone who\'s been through the process.

Thanks for your detailed update.

Looks like local PCC cost you a lot of headaches.
Gald it\'s all over for you.
Good luck for POE.

Kevin

What problem you had with your first local PCC (the one they rejected). Could you please post information regarding that?

Thanks.

new update....interesting info

Well,
Like I had informed in my previous post...I had a 2nd trip to the US consulate on May 28 and my visa was issued. Anyway I received a letter at my home here the next day from the US Consulate in Mumbai. The letter was dated May 22...the day of my original interview. The letter said that my visa was issued and that I should return to the consulate with my passport and visa issuance fee ($65) and that I need not worry about the PCC and the BC. Weird.......the letter came a few days too late. Really weird development though.

birth cert prob

My mother\'s full name was not on the BC...it had my father\'s full name. Rejected for a weird reason. But better be safe than sorry.

Ciao

Yes, that may be the reason we get replies from consulate saying \'No Need of PCC for those who is residing in US\'
