In the future my canadian wife and her 2 children (my step-children) want to immigrate to the US. First question: when we file for immigration one of the children will be nearing the age of 21, how much time should we allow for filing before they reach 21? If they turn 21 in september of 2017 should we file the i-30 a year before that time? Does the i-30 count as the official start of immigration or is there another document filed down the line that counts? At what stage of the immigration process is the child's age officially documented? Do they have to be under 21 when they actually get their green cards?
Second question: How does cash in the bank count towards assests? I will have no income in the US, only Canada so if I had to save money to prove financial support how much would I need, is it counted dollar for dollar?
