Hi,

I am new to this thread. Need some info:

1. a.How long does it takes to issue Notice Date once 140 is recd? Does it depends on service centers? If yes, how long in Vermont?

1. b. What all comes along with notice of reciept of 140?

2. Heard that 140s are being processed as per PD. Can someone suggest link to the document whihc states so? Is it really being followed?

3. I know about MD, RD, ND and AD - is there any other date apart from these which one needs to know for 140? for 485?

4. Any idea how someone who is coming from H4 to EAD gets his/her SSN? What documents will be needed and what process to follow?

Has to go to nearby social security office in person, with EAD and Passport. Have to fill the applicatoin for SSN. They will mail the SS card in 10 days.

2-4 weeks

Just your notice

2. Heard that 140s are being processed as per PD. Can someone suggest link to the document whihc states so? Is it really being followed?

There is a USCIS document which says they process based on PD. But again that is another theory. After concurrent filing, the PD has lost its value. If your have seen the previous years papers you would realize the current document is just a cut and paste. They haven't changed much from the previous 5 years in those documents. And also the processing dates published by USCIS is based on Notice date... not Priority dates. If they were processing based on pD they would publish the PD rather than ND.

Also if that is true... many who use labor substitution use pretty old LCs. If the theory is right... they should get instant approvals.

MD, RD are just for your reference. As far as USCIS ic concerned they go by ND alone. AD is ur approval date based on ND.

Take the filled SSN application(download from www.ssa.gov), passport and EAD to nearest SSA office. They will verify your poassport and EAD with the application an return it back. They will also giove you a confirmation receipt.

You should expect your SSN card in mail between 2- 4 weeks.

Typically less then a month. Some time it takes more. I get it within 10 days. Anyway Your EAC number should be available on back of en-cashed check.

1. b. What all comes along with notice of receipt of 140?

I-140 receipt. Nothing else.

2. Heard that 140s are being processed as per PD. Can someone suggest link to the document which states so? Is it really being followed?

There is nothing like processing dates. There are lot of theories. There is RFE theory. Three is I485 receipt date theory. CIS is very inconsistent. There are guys waiting since from Mar/Apr/May 2002. There are some other guys from December 2003 who already got approvals. Mine took 14 months. My colleague who applied along with me got I-140 approval in three months. No Consistency.

Nothing much. May be FP date later.

Process is very simple. All you need to take your passport ,EAD and I-485 receipt, I-94, to SSA office and apply for SSN.

Related piece.

1. Is ND used for all practical purpose?
2. For 180 days for EAD - does it starts from ND or RD?
