You do not have to have a valid passport.

$600 is way too much for medical exam. You don't have to use local civil surgeon. Man, you can travel to another state and do it for way less than that. :) I paid $230. Some people here paid less than $100. Never heard of $600. Where do you live?

When you send your forms to Chicago, mark the outside mailing package with "FEE WAIVER REQUESTED" as well as the Fee Waiver Affidavits and related documents. They will be directed to the department that handles that and then sent to the processing department. It will take maybe 5-7 days for them to send to the right department. Ex.
Jan. 20 - mailed to Chicago Lockbox
Jan. 25 - received in Chicago
Jan. 31 - Notice Date (the date that is shown as Notice Date is the beginning date to count when application is filed).

Also, your first NOA (Notice of Action)- like a receipt will state...... On Jan..... we approved your "fee waiver:....for.... I-... I would really appreciate it any wise and right inputs ...i know there are lot of peopl here who knows and dealt with this kinda situation .

Way too much for Civil Surgeon  You also will have to pay the biometric fee.

You will know if "Fee Waiver has been approved because your first Notice of Action will state.....On xxxx, 2007 ...your Fee Waiver has been granted.........

Do you mean visa expired but passport is 10 years old?

thanks for the inputs

1.I live in Ames,Iowa ( hope it doesnt violate privacy terms of this forum  )

2.My passport & visa both expird ........my visa and passport were both valid till 2005........but i am just talking about my passport which i shoudl have renewed back in 2005 for 5 more years which i didnt .

Question : When do I pay for biometric fee ???Do i send a check with papers when w file or ???????

Thanks Neshawn
appreciate it for ur kind imputs

God Bless

Yes you need to send the bio fee when you send the papers. Attach it to the sealed envelope the Civil Surgeon provides you.

Do you have the instructions on how to prepare "Fee Waiver" documents?

DO NOT PAY $600 FOR YOUR EXAM. THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS. WAS ASKING JUST TO FIND OUT WHERE YOU CAN GO TO OTHER CIVIL SURGEONS TO HAVE IT DONE. JUST MAKE A FEW CALLS AFTER YOU SEARCH OTHER NEARBY CITIES.

Overstays are usually "forgiven" by USCIS if you are the spouse of US Citizen so don't stress about the passport. You will need it for ID when you go to get FP (fingerprints).

thanks for ur reply

I have read the fee waiver guidence but still i am kinda confused ......do i wirte a letter where i explain about my and my fiance's financial picture ???

please could u tell me what and how exactly how i should prepare papers for the fee waivr ?
thanks
i wont bother u nomore
appreciate it thanks

First of all, it is not a bother to answer your questions. :)

You simply prepare an affidavit (you and your spouse do this). You submit it along with financial documents that verify your income. Ex. copies of bills for you and or your spouse, like light, gas, telephone, rent. Income verifications (the same info US would submit with I-864. If you have a bank account.

When I find the actual format for the affidavit,I will post it. It does not need to be notarized unless that has changed. Just prepare it sign it and date it.

Also on each supporting document, write "FEE WAIVER REQUEST" .

I will get back with you in a few.

Well, most of immunizations are valid within 10 years, some of them you do in childhood and don't have to do again, just take all your old immunization records with you and explain everything to your civil surgeon. You can also say that you had chicken pox and measles as a child which means you're immune and do not need a vaccination. You only need a tetanus shot if your last one was done more than 10 years ago, you will need TB test if you haven't done it within 3 years, anad they might tell you that you need a Hepatitis B vaccination if you don't need any record of it, but you can take a blood test and in some cases you don't need a vaccine it at all. Your whole medical exam should not exceed 250, that is when you need some of vaccines. Also, it is important to communicate with doctor correctly.
