I am creating this thread to carry forward discussion in (Identifying last successful coalition). Even though it may not change anything, I am tempted to respond.
I completely agree with what berkleybee said. I never realized until retrogression happened that vast majority of immigration is family based. lifting employment based limits would not tip the balance to one country or other.
Marlon, you are advocating hiring diverse people in the company you run. All right, that is your choice, but whom do you want to make decision in your company, you or USCIS. I am not MBA but common sense tells me in my company I am the boss and an outsider has no right to tell me whom I hire.
Indians are the not the only talented people so why are you asking for protectionism. All I am saying is let everyone be equal and then let business managers or employers decide whom they want. They may choose all people from one country or several.
And that diversity thing does not make sense to me either. India is more diverse culturally than all of european union. what is the difference in culture between Germany and France. Language. India has 25 official languages and thousands of dialects. I would say culturally, India, Pakistan, Srilanka, Nepal can be in one group. Similarly what is difference culturally between China, Japan, Korea, taiwan. Lot of south american countries speak same language and all love soccer. So in a sense, this limit has nothing to do with diversity, it has more to do with Nationality. If an american says he does not want one nationality people in their country that makes sense but when a foreigner who is applying for GC says the same, it does not.
Lifting country based limits would make everybody wait for 2-3 years rather than no wait for one and 8 years for others.
