Hi,

My wife and I are planning on applying for Canadian PR soon. My wife has a BS in Accounting from a University in Thailand I have a BS in MIS from a university in the United States. We do not have job offer in Canada and do not relatives. I speak little bit of French.

We would like to get some help/advise from those of you who know how the work experience works. While I was an undergraduate student in the United States, I worked as an Information Systems Specialist from Jan 2000 to April 2002. I graduated in April 2002 and started working full-time in same job with more responsibilities as a Systems Engineer. I worked full-time until Aug 2003. In September, I started graduate school and working part-time since then.

I am having hard time figuring out the years of work experience I have. Can I say that I have been working since Jan 2000? Do I need to mention part-time or full-time? Are they going to look at when I graduated and calculate my work experience from that date?

My boss is ready to write that I have been working there since Jan 2000. I have also worked little over 2 years as a Front Office Manager in a three star hotel back home. I worked there when I was doing my B. Com. (did not finish the degree and came to the US). Can I count that hotel work experience?

Thanks for your time.

-Niraj

Part-time will be counted as half of full-time. So, you have to have at least one-year full-time experience to apply.
Check the occupation list and if hotel front manager is in there or not. If not then try to find a job description of a hotel manager and include that position.

clearsky,

Thanks for replying. What about if I use "Systems Engineer" instead "front office manager"?

What if I not talk about hotel job?

By the time I graduate with a master degree, I am going to have more than 6 years of part-time and little over 1 year of full-time experience as a Systems Engineer.

Thanks,

-Niraj

Is there anybody please give me some info?

What job title will be stronger to apply with? Systems Engineer or Hotel Manager?

I think system Engineer is better.

Hotel Manager does't show any technical degree/work.
While 'System Engineer' does.

And as far as experience and experience certificate concern. You have to 'manage' it, if you need to.

I think, Federal level, there is no point calculation based on occupation. but assessment officer might be looking at your occupation also. Once upon a time, there was occupation 'Computer System Anlayst' was there(and it used to give good points, but now calculation method has changed).

But if you are applying province level(PNP) then, you can check which occupations are in demand by going to each province level website's occupation list.

vsshah,

Thanks for replying to my question.

You wrote, "And as far as experience and experience certificate concern. You have to 'manage' it, if you need to."

Could you please explain that sentence little bit more? I am not sure what I need to manage.

Thanks in advance.

I asked a question and somebody answered. I had one more question and I asked again.

But people in this board seem don't answer more than one question. I would like to make a decison soon and I don't want to make a mistake and waste my money.

Please help.

'manage' means you print it out by yourself and sign it.

If you have lesser experience. But gap is more then, to get more points. Add more experience by printing experience certificate with fake company or real company by your own. but when you do something like this, then make sure, in your experience letter company, if Canadian authority contacts, then your reference should come out from there.

For example, if you will write 'Hotel Manager' 5 years, they will not considered much. But, if you will write 'System Engineer' they will consider you more.

Now, damn thing is, if you dont have more than 2 years of experience, may be your marks might be lesser than 67. I dont know your exact total. If it is less than 67 , then how you will manage ??? So, I wrote 'manage'. When certain things are written with single quote, means it has more than literal meaning.

Spoon feeding is not expected buddy...

Best Luck for your process.....
