My work visa will officially be converted to H1B on October (H1B approved in April).

1) If I get laid off before October, will I be able to use this visa to find employment elsewhere?

2) If I get laid off shortly after October, can I look for a new employer and do an H1B transfer?

3) If I don't get laid off but decide to look for another employer anyway, would it be possible to file the H1B transfer with the new employer and start upon receipt of approval (20-45 days)?

4) What are the requirements for a successful H1B transfer? For example, can the new job be of a different nature from the current job (say, from database programmer to business analyst, etc.)?
