A good place to start in your search for an attorney is your local medical society or bar association, who sometimes can provide referrals. Both the AMA and the AAFP have directories of pre-screened attorneys and consultants by state. You may access the AMA list at

http://www.aafp.org/fpassist.xml. You do not have to be a member of either organization to use these resources. You may also have success in asking a colleague if they have used someone that they can recommend. Your accountant may also be a good referral source for attorneys who understand medical practice issues.
Below is a listing of national firms that can provide legal advice. All are large enough that they have a wide range of expertise, including health and regulatory law, employment law, and corporate and tax law. Call any of these firms and ask for their expert in the area that you need. This will allow you to discuss your problem, in general terms, before making a decision about an engagement for them to work for your group. As in hiring any professional consultant, be sure and determine scope of work and costs up front. Because legal expertise does not come cheap, you may want to inquire about costs for work done by partners vs. associates, although this is not always an option. For those state specific issues, firms can usually affiliate with a local firm licensed in that particular state or refer you appropriately.
