Hello everyone,
I've been pondering over a few things since the past couple of days and despite going through numerous websites and articles, I’m still confused. I was hoping someone over here could help me in clarifying it.
All right, here it goes. I got my F22 US immigration visa on the 25th of July, 2012.
-21st January, 2013: I entered the US for the first time and left on 6th February 2013
-4th February: I received my green card
-2nd August, 2013: I entered the US for the second time and left on 1st September 2013
When I arrived for the second time, the immigration officer at the port of entry strongly advised me to apply for a travel document. Following his advice, I applied for the document and received it by October 2013.
I will go back to the US in July 2014(approximately after 10 months since my last visit) after completing my under graduate from here (India) and will stay there permanently from that point onwards. So these are my questions:
1) I really haven't understood what the term 'breaking your continuous residence cycle' means. If my continuous residence cycle is broken, does it mean that my duration of stay in the US (from Jan-Feb and Aug-Sep) gets reset OR does the entire 5 year duration(time required for applying for citizenship) gets reset and will only start once I enter the US again on July 2014?
2) After you get your travel document, does your continuous residence cycle get reset?
3) I read that one can apply for citizenship 3 months before the end of 5 years, what is the earliest time that I can apply for a passport, keeping all of the above mentioned circumstances in mind?
Your help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
