Continue Work after applying for EAD Renewal

Hi,
I have 2 questions:
1. Can I apply for a renewal of my EAD if I have got only a receipt of my I-94 extension. The documents for the extension of I-94 will come in some time.
2. Can I continue to work if I have "applied" for a renewal of my EAD?
