Sailing Permit
Sailing permit certifies that the individual has paid regular taxes and is in compliance with the IRS code and officially it is a requirement before you leave USA for the consular post abroad-however,for the past few years most consulates have not asked for one.All I wanted to know is, if someone has ever been asked to produce one.
For obtaining this certificate u have to apparently fill out Form 1040-C of the IRS and according to one webpage the government can actually prevent your leaving the country if you don't have this certificate. The same website also says its upto the individual to take it or leave it but I guess if you are abroad and there is even 1% chance that this will jeopardize your CP application, then u might as well get it.Now if no one has ever been asked for one or if the information on this website is outdated then it would be helpful for future applicants to not even bother with it-so guys if you know anything about this let me know.
Thank you
