Consular Process CP interview in Mumbai Bombay

This is our experience of the CP process in Mumbai. We took an
appointment in advance for the medical exam at Lilavati hospital in
Mumbai. Go by 8:30 as everyone is treated as equal and things don\'t
start moving till 9 am. They take a blood test first , then a chest
X-ray and finally a General checkup. Take any evidence of vaccinations
you have had in the past or else you will need to take it again. You
will get the results the same day in the evening. They say you will need
the X-ray report at the port of Entry in the US , but it was not
required.

Make drafts of $260 and $65 in Rupees from any Nationalized banks.
Remember to write your name , address & phone number behind the draft.

Do not go early for the interview as they don\'t allow you inside.
There is no line or Q for the interview candidates. After going in one
has to make the payment for $260 draft first. Then they will call your
name after about hour in the waiting room. Have your birth certificate,
passport copies & employer offer letter ready for all applicants
separately apart from the OF-230 part 1 and part 2 forms. There should
be no shadow or ear rings in the photographs or else they will be
rejected. There a guy in the waiting room ready for this. He has a
simple digital camera & Epson printer. He will print 5 perfect photos
for Rs150. You can also take photos from any studio in Mumbai as they
have a new photo called US Visa photo. You can save a lot of money
compared to any place in the US where it is $8 for 2 photos. After all
the papers are accepted, they will call you for the oath. The questions
asked in the interview was a > Which company do you work for ? b> What
is your position ? Then pay the balance $65 draft .
The H1B visa is canceled & you get a big packet in the evening to travel
to the US.

The immigration people at Bombay airport want to make some money from
prospective Green card holders, so they may say that you need a police
certificate or else you cannot travel. I am not sure how far this is
true , but the solution was to give him Rs500 and come the the US.

You will have to stand the in the New immigrant line at your port of
Entry. They take a single finger print of your right index finger &
stamp the temporary Green card on your passport. You will receive the
permanent in 6 months time.

CONFUSED BET AOS AND CP

Hi all,
My GC processing so far is going smooth. Thanks to the almighty. My case was filed under EB3 Category. Sometime in May, this year we were ready to file my I-140. I asked my attorney whether she is filing for CP or AOS. She said we will file it in AOS. August 24th a Week before the Labor Day, She called telling me my I-140 is approved. GOSH---too soon for it-- :-) anyways read a lot about CP and NVC. I got my approval in hand today and I read that it states the package has been approved and papers are sent to NVC in NH.

Is my Case CP or AOS?

I asked my attorney about this and she said there are 2 things, they keep consular procesing open for 2 yrs just in case if something goes wrong with the AOS processing. Can someone put some Light into it please.

I read somewhere, that my file can be only at one place either with Consulate in respective country or with the INS here. In such scenario how can she say it stays open for 2 yrs and we are filing it in AOS.

Please help GURUS... Any help is appreciated
Thank you
Deepesh
