Consequences for rescheduling FP

My husband had to reschedule his FP date as the first date offered was a week-day and he was working and couldn't get it off. He sent the letter back saying he wanted "the next available Saturday" and has a new FP date of approx six weeks after the original. So far, that's been the only delay.

We asked to reschedule my daughter's fingerprinting (it was for a new GC, but it was basically the same procedure). We followed the instructions on the notice (we made a copy of the notice for our records, and then sent the original back to them with an explanation). They delayed it three weeks. It didn't seem to affect the time line at all.

I called USCIS, they say it will be months before they will give another FP appointment. My origila FP date has passed and I have not heard anything from them yet.

Any experience that you can shre would help.

i missed my FP appointment because the notice arrived after the appt. date. I just walked in to the local office the next day in the am and got fingerprinted. No impact on the rest of the process - got interviewed today.

Well, I posted the original notice with request for change of date. The instructions said so.
Any one else had similar experience?

Can't one get fingerprinted on a wednesday if they cannot keep the original FP appointment? they used to do that before not sure if that is still standard practise.

that's right. A friend of mine got her FPs done today in NYC (she couldn't make the original appt). Hers is for a greencard but I think its the same deal.

that is correct that you can get FP on wednesdays provided you have ORIGINAL notice. In my case I already sent the original with reqest to change the appointment.

Also, does FP reschedule mean delaying whole citizenship process Or other things like name chaeck etc happen while your request to reschedule is in process?

I don't think FPs delay the overall process. As far as I know, its a 24hr turnaround time for FPs (unless your FPs are found on crime scenes, etc. :) ). Name check and general processing (could) take much longer than FPs. Also, I think lack of FPs doesn't stop the name check process. Although, I have read on the board here that they 'submit' the name check the same time as your FP notice is issued.

That is how it should be theoretically. But, I have a feeling that some DOs wait for FPs to be completed to send name check in. Can not remember exactly....but I think I read somewhere in some congressional testimony or something like that DOs felt

(1) that they needed to double check the person's identity before proceeding with the application. they consider fingerprint to be the "real" proof of identity and the exact match with the application.

They want to ensure that all names are matching during FP. For example, I remember that one person was refused from FP office since he did not have his exactly name maching with their records.

(2) that they felt need to screen out some applicants for further name check process for obvious issues that can be discovered after 24hr fingerprint check turnaround (warrants, fugitives, fraud etc.)

I think missing FP will build probably some delay for sure. How much? It depends on DO and their exact procedures.

I talked to the UCIS, they already started name check process and got back "some data". So name check progresses even though FP is not complete.. atleast in my case.

who at USCIS gave you this Info?

I called 1-800 number on my FP notice, that directed me to USCIS customer service (you may need to wait for 25-30mins) but your patience will pay off if you wait.

FP letter misplaced & other

I applied for N-400 on 9/12/06 for citizenship & after 1.5 month, last week I called USCIS. They said, my fingerprint scheduled date was passed. I never got letter for FP. They said they will mail me another letter to reschedule & if I don't receive within 30 days, I can call after 30 days.

1. Immigration officer in Dover, Delaware told me it can take long to reschedule. Last time this happened(1 year back) to one of her case & it took 6 months. Any way to expedite? I live in Newark, DE & I know that for sure(I called & check with them) our fingerprint office is not busy at all.

2. I missed 2 letters from USCIS- receipt letter(mailed on 9/21/06) & fingerprint(maied on 9/22/06).
I already confirmed my address. They had all the time my correct address & I'm receiveing all other mails without any problem. How can I make sure, I don't miss any more letter from them. Eventhough I offered to pay for registered/any mail with tracking no.They said, they can only send by regular mail.
They did cash my check. When I called first time around 10/25/06 to USCIS, lady said they've problem in system & mails getting delayed. But, she didn't say anything about Fingerprint letter. When I called, second time on 11/02/06, person told me that fingerprint letter was sent on 9/22/06 & I never received it.

3. I need to go India for few months for work. Can I go prior to fingerprint. & again between fingerprint & interview or that will be reason to deny citizenship(Too many long visits to India right before interview?). Currently I 've greencard. Can I stay in India for more than 6 months?

4. My interview will be in Philadelphia & oath will be in Wilmington. I heard it takes atleast 1 month(normaly longer) for oath after interview, here. I need to go India ASAP after interview. Can I change my address to NJ(my cousin lives in NJ). to expedite interview & oath.

5. How long it takes to receive passport after oath. Can I apply for passport & go India?

Thanks a lot

5: Once you get a naturalization certificate (at your oath ceremony), you can immediately apply for a passport. Expedited service takes about 1 week (stated goal) or about 2 weeks (realistic) if there are no hiccups.

If you live in one of the 14 cities with a "passport agency" in it (NYC, Washington, Houston, LA, etc) and you have tickets in your hands, and you make an appointment, you can get a passport in a day or two. Check out http://travel.state.gov

Rescheduling the FP

Hi All,
Today I received the FP Appointment letter. It is scheduled on 24th November but I will be out of town and could not reschedule my travel plans. But I have read that we can walkin to the Application support Center and request them to take the Fingerprinting earlier or later. Is it true?

I have also heard, mailing the application to reschedule takes time. Can I walk in to the Application Support center and request? Please advise,

Thanks & Regards,
Malini

What does it say on your finger print notice. Ours had a note at the bottom saying "if you cannot make this appointment..."

If it were me, I'd do what it says.
