Congressman follow-up for TSC

I got the following response from my congressman when they forwarded two following questions to TSC:

1) What is USCIS, Texas Service Center doing to reduce the backlog for employment based I-485 or AOS applications?

2) USCIS, Texas Service Center has been lagging behind other USCIS service centers in processing the employment based I-485 or AOS applications. Is anything being done to correct this situation and reduce the waiting time for AOS filers at Texas Service Center?

TSC response:

This center is currently working I-485 adjustment of status applications filed on or before 4/1/2001. Please be aware that every service center does not work all types of applications/petitions and it is not equitable to compare processing times of different centers. This office processes I-485 applications for employment based petitions, NACARA, and certain Cuban applicants. All adjustment applications require several security checks and some cases may take longer than others due to this requirement. Although there may be some exceptions, it is our goal to process all cases according to the date received.

We have a long task ahead to make TSC acknowledge the backlog and take action to reduce these backlogs. I'll contact my congressman with the lawsuit details and ask him to contact TSC director. I encourage everyone to contact their congressman and ask them to send similar queries to TSC director.

Reply from Lamar Smith (Austin) office

Similar response from the Austin congressperson.

Lamar Smith’s office mentioned that the congressional person at the TSC is well aware of the I-485 problems but there is no word from TSC on what they would do to reduce the backlogs.

So folks please keep the pressure on with your elected representatives to make our voices heard to the deaf ears of TSC.

I think there are only 2 things that can change the situation on 485:

1. Rajiv's lawsuit goes in our favor by winning.
2. Some kind of election year politics immigration policy

The petitions I'm afraid have had no effect. It seems that TSC no longer cares about Congressman inquires, especially since the current Administration is pretty unilateral and doesn't even take Congress' advice on more serious issues.

Groan, did you contact your congressperson with the petition and request him/her to contact TSC director about the delays????

It worked for CSC, they have acknowledged a backlog in I-485 employment based cases and have a plan to reduce these backlogs. CSC filers are lot more active in contacting congressmen and CSC director received a lot more queries from congressmen about these backlogs, forcing them to identify and correct the situation.

We TSC members can do the same and contact our congressmen to write to TSC director about the backlog. Everybody need to partcipate in this fight. The more number of letters TSC receive from congressmen the better. If we don't demand justice, nobody will provide it for us.

You can't expect to impact TSC-policy with the following limited approach:

I'm in TX, and I've sent petitions last year. No response. I appreciate all the efforts on this board, but after close to 2 years waiting..... one has to get real. CSC is in a democrat state. There is more regard for the efforts of immigrants there. TX is not the best place for minorities to advance. I know this from my experience in the petrochem field... a lot different from software and my job is a software job. You can walk on water and be a million times better than the guy in the next office (as acknowledged by repeated awards), but because you don't have GC, there's no career advancement. Again, I'm not trying to discourage anyone. If you are successful that's great. But I'm beyond wishful thinking...............

Thanks

I thank you for contacting your congressman. Be positive and Rajiv's lawsuit is hopefully a good thing, but we'll have to continue our efforts with the congress. That's from Rajiv himself, he wants us to continue to contact our congressperson/media. Let me know your district/congressman so that I can update the table with that info.

Please update this XL spreadsheet, won't take much time:

Also we need everyone to update this spreadsheet. That's the best we can do for the lawsuit and inturn for ourselves.

Good one. Not to be pessimistic. We have a very hard enough time in rallying the folks in this forum to call their congressman/senator and follow up to see what TSC will do about the backlogs. This action has absolutely no repercussions and there are only a minimal number of volunteers amongst hundreds in this forum. Even actions like please list the media contacts in the xl spreadsheet doesn’t get any attention.

I suspect you would find very minimal support for this action. But then again who knows may be the TSC tigers might be wanting to do something more foreful.
