Hi,
I finally got my citizenship this week. I had opted to change my name to my husband's last name on my N400 application, and that is now my new name on my Naturalization Certificate. However I didn't get a NCCO with my paperwork, so I called USCIS this morning and, after almost a half hour pushing buttons trying to find the right person to talk to, I finally just asked the first USCIS live person who came on the line. He had to check with his superiors, and told me that I need to make an appointment to return to the USCIS office and talk to an immigration officer. However, I don't think I mentioned to him that my name change was through marriage, because I didn't think it made a difference. Having read several conflicting stories online in the meantime, I now think it might.
Can anyone confirm for me that I need a NCCO for a name change to my married name. I know the DMV is very strict, so I dread the thought of going there without the right paperwork...I was humiliated there a few months ago, and once is enough! Would it be okay to go their with my Naturalization Certificate and my marriage certificate? Is there anywhere online I can get this information?
The USCIS office is in Newark, NJ and they do same day oath ceremonies there...no court ceremony was required.
Thanks for any help.
