Hello,
I applied for my OCI card on March 9, 2007 and I have been checking my status for past few days and it still states not acknowledge.I have realized that there are some errors I have made.
First, the money order was made to OCI Cell Consulate General of India. and after some research that was not it was suppose to be.
Second, I am reading that my Indian passport was supposed to be cancelled before applying for the OCI card. I never cancelled mine.

Please help, I am leaving for India in month of June and will not be returning for a year atleast.
Can I contact the consulate regarding my issues? There is no contact information to be found

Thank you

In my opinion your OCI application should have been acknowledged by this time if you belong to CGI,NY jurisdiction. I applied for my minor son on 03/26 at CGI,NY and the status showed up on 04/04.

Some consulates are very slow in acknowledging the application and from your post it is not clear where you applied for OCI. Chicago & Houston seems to be very slow from what I have read in other threads.

I am not very sure if making the money order to OCI Cell Consulate General of India is OK or not but I think it should be fine.

Regarding canceling Indian passport, it is not necessary to cancel the PP before applying for OCI. You can cancel the Indian PP once your OCI documents arrive at CGI,NY and you can mail your US PP for OCI stamping and Indian PP for canceling. This is what I did when I got my OCI.

Read other threads to get an approximate timeline for your consulate and then if you think the status should have appeared by this time contact the consulate.

I just chekced my status and it states that it is "Under Process" I am so happy....
When do I mail my US passport to SF? Can I mail my Indian Passport and request the passport to be cancelled at same time as mailing US pp?

Mail the US passport to CGI-SF after "registration is granted" and the documents are received @ CGI-SF. The online status will reflect that. You can send the Indian passport for cancellation along with the US passports for OCI stamp. I did that @ CGI-SF without any problems.

When I mail both of my passport how much money do I have to send? Does it has to be Money order? If yes, who should I write the check to?

Send money order or bank check for $15.00 payable to "Consulate General of India, San Francisco"(I assume you applied @ SFO) that should be enough to cover the return postage for the consulate to send back your passports and don't forget to write a cover letter with your registration number. I have read in some threads that $15.00 covers the postage for returning the passports of up to 4 family members.

My last questions

First, I want to THANK YOU all of you for helping me through this tough road..

I think this will be my last question:
I want to know what add should I be mailing my passports (Indian to cancell and US to get the stamp) at? When I mail them should it be express delievery or something? The website states that I should call the Mission Office after 10 days from the date of despatched from Delhi..Where is the number for the Mission Office?
