:confused: Rentry Permit for me & wife...

Hi,

I got my GC 6 mths back and I want to know go to India for a year or so as my parents need me right now. I am thinking of applying for a rentry permit as I have been told its good for 2 years. I am not sure I will be out for 8 mths or 1-2 yrs as I am planning to join a co. while I am in India and will try to make business trips to US if I can..

My questions were..

1. How long can you be out of US without a Rentry Permit ?

2. Can the Rentry Permit be issued due to the reason that my parents are sick in India and they need my attention ? Do I need to give proof while applying ..?

3. I am just waiting for my wife approval to come. She has an interview left with INS and hopefully should get her passport stamped this mth. Can we apply for her rentry permit immidiately after her passport is stamped since we might not be able to wait for the plastic card which takes few mths I guess. I will ask my freind to mail it to me later. Do we need to wait for the plastic card or copy of her passport stamping is enough for us to apply for a rentry permit ? I am assuming her application would be separate and cannot be combined with me.

4. Anything else we need to know about this Rentry permit.

I would really apprecaite if you guys can give your view point on this matter. Also folks who have taken this route PLS SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE....

2. Can the Rentry Permit be issued due to the reason that my parents are sick in India and they need my attention ? Do I need to give proof while applying ..? Yes the reason is good enough.No proof is required.

3. I am just waiting for my wife approval to come. She has an interview left with INS and hopefully should get her passport stamped this mth. I am assuming her application would be separate and cannot be combined with me. She can apply as soon as she gets her passport stamped, actual GC is not required for applying for ReP. Hers is a separate application with separate fees.

4. Anything else we need to know about this Rentry permit. Takes 6 momths to get. You should be in the US while applying. You need not wait to receive it, you can have it delivered it to the nearest US consulate in India if you os desire.
