Confused between I-134 & I-864

My wife and I have our appointment data for CP in Montreal. I think we have everything gathered up now, except for this.

We are both Canadian and have both been living in the US. I have been working on an O1, with my wife as a dependant on an O3.

My question is, which form do we need to fill out and get notarized to take to the appointment? The I-134 or the I-864? I don't quite understand the difference between the two.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

If your green card is employment based, you only need I-134. If it is family based, you need I-864.

It is employment based. Thanks for the input. Everything else was fairly straightforward, but this had us confused.

All we have left to do is get photos taken, do the I-134, and get my employer to write a short support letter and we're ready to go!

Thanks again!

I-134

Hi

Is the I-134 form included in Packet 4 ?? Is it okay to use the form available in immihelp website or do we have fill in the original form (if any) sent by the consulate.

Thanks.

Urgent: I-134 question?

Hello nkm-oct23 and other CP Gurus,

I am on Employment Based ( EB3) green card- consular processing phase. I don't have any dependents who will be applying for Green Card with me.

My question:

Do I need to take form I-134?

If so, what is the reason?

My employer is sponsering my Green Card and they have given me notarised employment letter.

Thanks for your reply.

In your case you do not need the I-134.

I posted the same question to Chennai Consulate:

They mentioned that for "EMPLOYMENT BASED" gc you just need I-134.

Cheers,

Ganesh,

Did you ask whether a sigle person(without any dependents) on Employment Category needs a I-134 ?

That was vpampatt's question.

Please clarify so members would know.

In the reply they had mentioned that:
"Only your dependents need I-134 who joins or follow-to-join along the with the applicant and each dependent needs a separate I-134."

To, answer your question, single guys (without any dependents) need no I-134. Logically I-134 is affidavit of support and your employment letter is enough proof to let them know that you would not be a social liability.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Ganesh.
