Hi folks,
I'm looking to get a two year travel document to be allowed to reenter the US. However, I am a conditional green card holder, which will be expiring 8/31/11.

a. what will happen if I'm abroad and my green card expires (but I still have a valid I-131 travel doc)?

b. If I'm allowed entry back to the states after my conditional green card expires, what must I do then?

thanks for any help you can give..

I am no expert on this, but I guess you have to file I-751 before your conditional green card expires. I don't think I-131 is going to save you from this. I am not sure if you can file while you are away though. This is what I-751 says:

Effect of not filing.
If this petition is not filed, you will automatically lose your permanent resident status as of the second anniversary of the date on which you were granted conditional status.
You will then become removable from the United States. If your failure to file was through no fault of your own, you may file your petition late with a written explanation and request that USCIS excuse the late filing. Failure to file before the expiration date may be excused if you demonstrate when you submit the application that the delay was due to extraordinary circumstances beyond your control and that the length of the delay was reasonable.
