Concurrent to CP conversion

I have filed 140/485 in Nebraska in Jan'04 under EB3.
I140 is still not approved. I am in India right now. Is it possible to convert to CP now?

I believe you need to file I-824.
uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/i-824.htm
However, they might consider your AOS application abandoned.
Processing I-824 apparently often takes very long (8-12 months).

Also on the I-824

I was looking into this, although I did not file concurrently. You cannot apply for the I-824 until your I-140 is approved. It is not worth the wait.

Some consulates don't need the I824, but I don't know how that works. It only works after the I-140 is approved.
