Concurrent 140/485, but no concurrent approval!?!?!

I filed I-140 & I-485 in July 2004. Late in Janaury I received approval on the I-140 :) I now have an 'A' number.

I have a reciept for the 485 and they requested fingerprint fees which are paid and VSC acknowledged that - the case is being processed.

Can I expect the 485 anytime soon if it was filed concurrently with the 485?

Both are different process

I-140 is your employer's request for an alien employee (you). In it, you are only the beneficiary, not the petitioner (which is your employer). So, you did not even own that part of the process. Before concurrent filing, you must wait to have the I-140 approved to be able to FILE your I-485 which is your AOS application. Concurrent filing is only an attemp to expedite the filing, and will provide a faster AP and EAD conditional to the I-140. That was a HUGE improvement for most of us.
The USCIS will always process the I-140 first, and based on its approval will then take care of the I-485.
Look at the sunny side of it, you have the I-140 approved, in 180 days the whole process will be yours, and even if you (unwillingly) must leave your employer, or they withdraw your I-140 application, your AOS application is still valid.
It still will take a while to get your I-485 approved; just be patient, there is nothing else you can do.

Thanks for the info - Does the new process speed up the 485 in any way or is it still the same as it used to be?

Why don't you count your blessings?

As far I can recall, as C9:
- You already filed your I-485 way ahead than before
- You were able to file for EAD and receive it conditionally before your I-140 was approved
- You were able to file for AP and travel before your I-140 wa approved.
- Your 180 days count from the I-485, which is the same as your I-140

There is plenty of folks here that can tell you sad stories of years waiting to enjoy such luxuries.

Be patient, look ahead, and keep your case under close watch for any change.
