Comprehensive Immigration Reforms

What would be the impact of current election results on comprehensive immigration reforms and retrogression issue ?

Dems have controlled house and Senate is in limbo...

i dont think we will get anything in the november session since they have a lot of appropriation related bills pending...
I think the session after christmas we might get something from the house.....hopefully :)

If republicans take decide to pass it "the way they wanted to pass" , they still can do in this lame duck session.. I hope republicans do not do anything till January session.. Otherwise we will be having a bill the way Lou Dobbs wants..

Guys, no offense. But, if you are educated/skilled workers, you don't want comprehensive immigration reform; specially any path allowing illegals becoming citizens..

WHY???

NEVER EVER forget what impact 245i had on the current immigration processing for legal workers. Created unbelievable backlog of labor applications and created mess that we are all suffering from. And 245i added only about 100-150k cases to the system. Can you imagine if they allow this for 10-12 million illegals as it is intended in the bill?

I can imagine you guys are concerned about getting EB quota cleared up; but, don't forget that future legal workers applying for GC would have to wait for 100 years.....or even more...

They will never go for separate queue for illegals as politicians are dumb and don't care as you can see with 245i. When it comes to processing, they will find out they screwed up....and will open..."INFINITE BACKLOG CENTER" ..which will take zillion years to process 12 million cases.

My 2 cents..

Ditto. FasterGCWanted did point out the cons of the CIR bill.
Moreover, till LC is cleared, I wouldn't think of I-485 backlog. In fact, with the current situation, the applicants from backlogged countries, with PD of 2001/2002 are capturing visa numbers. This is better than letting 2006 applicants capture visa numbers while 2002 applicants wait for the LC! That's what happened during later half of 2005.
My 2 cents.

As per the information I have CIR would help Legal immigrants by 1) Increasiing Visa numbers 2) Assigning one number to a Family... So for now on temporary ground it would serve the purpose for stuck souls to get out of this mess. Yes you are right in a sense for future effect to future legal applicants. But then Ethics will play its part and with new bill they will have to introduce the protection and priority to legal immigrants first against illegal ones. All in all one more battle we can see here for legal immigrants.

With due respect...increasing the visa numbers would be unfair to people who are still stuck at BEC. I think it should only be considered once BEC is done with all the backlog.

Can you explain how the increment in visa numbers may affect BEC stuck souls badly?

Total number of cases pending in BEC at this time would be about 150,000.
They claim of clearing 150,000 cases.

Right now the employment visa is 140,000 per year.

There is a clog in the system as the visa numbers are so low. Only the old filers are able to file their application. Once this BECs phased out, then its good to see the visa number should be increased.

If the employment number reaches 290,000 per year which exclude dependents, there is a good chance that DECEMBER 2006 PERM EB3 can file their I-485 (GREEN CARD) leaving me or anyone who is concerned ahead, after the visa number becomes current.

PLEASE DONOT SUPPORT THE CURRENT CIR AS IT AFFECTS THE OLD FILERS. I AM THINKING ABOUT STARTING A CAMPAIGN TO STOP THESE - I NEED YOUR HELP AND INPUT.

read what manwithnoname said earlier...it's pretty clear.

It will not work out the way it described and so we BEC stuck souls will not have to worry. If CIR would be passed, it will be implemented from October 2007 and by then as per BEC's public declaration all backlog will be cleared. Ya, I know how far you can trust BEC's claim :) but considering its claim achievement, we will not have to worry.

In my understanding if CIR would be passed, it will be effective from next "Visa Year" starting from October end 2007. Please correct me if I am wrong. ANd if I am correct then according to BEC's claim BEC stuck souls will not have to be worried. At the most what can happen is old BEC stck buddies and new applicants (2006) will get to gether in 485 queue but there again depending upon earlier PD old buddies will be processed first.

I already said this, but again....

Number 1, we should never support CIR is that it will make the mockery of immigration process....AGAIN.

We all have been paying taxes for years now and still stuck in this freaking BPC queue because of 245i. I just can't see the jobs of "pressers" and "dish washers" being posted ahead of people who are highly qualified (this is true..look at ajb.com to check out for yourself) YOU DO NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN EVER AGAIN.....NOT TO US..NOT TO OUR FUTURE FRIENDS......NOT TO OUR ENEMIES EVEN...TRUST ME....

Labordrags...I agree with you..there should be opposition from skilled community and legal immigrants to not include the provision for legalizing the illegals.

As far as the Visa numbers goes...I do feel it's unfair to a lot of people in the short term...and I wish CIR is delayed until BEC gets over with all the backlog. I don't trust their deadline of sept 07..to be frank..and I am sure I am not alone.

One more convincing reason to separate legalized sould from illegal ones. Read the content of the link below. If CIR would not be touched in 2007, does it mean BEC stuck souls should start packing the bags? I think separate bill for BEC stuck guys should be introduced to clear the mess.

Of course not ... all BEC applicants have PD earlier than March 31, 2005. Therefore, everyone is eligible for annual extensions on H-1B visa. All that necessary is to hold on to the current job.
