I've called some attorneys about this and gotten inaccurate information. Maybe someone here can help.
My husband became a US citizen a year ago. His mother has lived here since 1986 and overstayed her tourist visa. We are in the process of filling out the various forms to obtain a green card for her. My question is this: She has a legit social security number that she obtained when she arrived. Back then apparently it was much easier to get one. She has used this over the years to work. I realize this is not a work authorization, but she has paid into Social Security and filed her taxes every year. She gets letters from Social Security describing the benefits she will received once she is actually eligible to receive them. Will this evidence of her unauthorized employment hurt her application? I'm seeing various places where it asks for a social security number. Do we include it? Thoughts?
