Complex situation - 17 month OPT/E-verify

Some facts: I'm currently on 17-month OPT extension. It started from Dec 2008 and ends in May 2010. I got it through my old employer ABC where I was working full time. I got laid off 5 weeks back. Until now, I have been unemployed for around 75 days including the initial 12-month OPT.

I had an interview today with a good company XYZ, which is not e-verified. I feel 90% chances that I might get the job here. They are even ready to file for my H1B this year.

But, here comes the BIG problem. As per the rules, while on 17-month OPT, I can't work an employer who is not e-verified.

Can someone please please suggest what I should in this situation. I would be so grateful if you can provide me with some help. I feel sleepless knowing I cannot work, even if I get this job.

I will suggest you work with this company assuming it is in your field of study. More important than e-verification is being employed. You should report your employer's name and dates of employment to the school.

@ NJITUSER. I am in a similar situation. I have a job offer with one of the biggest IT companies - I don't know if they e-verify or not. They stated specifically they do not sponsor for this position. I already completed section 1 of I-9 electronically on the companies website and will complete section 2 on the first day of work (they will make copies of license and EAD-OPT).

I will have 8 months left on my OPT on my start date. And I'm eligible for STEM extension - I'm thinking of getting extension through my current employer that's e-verify. I will marry my American girlfriend in december and hopefully file for work permit in January.

Should I be worried that they may not accept my OPT card (because they dont sponsor) on my start date?

Please advise
