Complete Application for Permanent resident or adjust status

Please help!

My 485 was applied in TX on April 2002, and ut was tranferred to local SC on May 25th
Today (07/24/2004) I received a mail from USDJ to appear our local office for "Complete Application for Permanent resident or adjust status" on coming month 24th.
1 - What is that means ?
2 - We purchased ticket for four of us to India, and scheduled return is 28th of next month, Is it safe to ask for another date - reschedule?

No Do not postpone it. Getting one date is very tough task. That day you will have interview and they approve your greencard.
