Company Name Change - RFE from INS

New Member
Our campany changed its name last year, after my I-140 was filed but before the I-485 was filed. Since the I-485 was filed under a different company name, the INS has requested evidence that this is the same company.

My lawyer is saying that she wants to submit a new I-140. I think it is enough to answer the basic question that the INS has askied and just sumbit evidence that the name has changed but that this is the same company with the same Tax ID.

Any thoughts ?

I can\'t provide you advice on this, but dealing with some of the lawyers is very frustrating. They always complicate things to try to cover all the basis when all you need is a simple solution (like answering the damn question the INS is asking).

Although the INS is processing I-140 quicker these days, mine took 17 months (6/99 - 11/00). I wouldn\'t risk doing re-applying! What\'s the worst that could come out of answering the question?

Thanks for your answer. It makes logical sense in my mind too, to just answer the question and providing anny further information only if they ask for it.
