My girlfriend is coming to the United States on F-1 Visa, she would like to come earlier than the 30 days allotted by the visa. In order to do this she can travel here on the visa waiver program since she is from a country that allows that. Upon reaching the 30 days, we would like to drive to Canada, and pass through immigration and return to the US there in order to "switch" the visa from Visitor to F-1. I'm not exactly sure how to do this without taking a plane. Can anyone give advice. We will be traveling from New York City.
