We had applied for my Son's N600 based on my wife's naturalization in early April, only to recieve a receipt for USD 255 and no further communication.

Today, I took an infopass to get status. The IO happened to be the same IO who swore me to citizenship a month back, very friendly. I did not have my Son's A# with me, he inquired it out of the system based on name/dob, and then started to look for his file in a nearby cabinet. He could not find it, took help from a co-worker, he also could not find. Both then disapperaed for 20 mins, and returned back with a certificate which was prepared in early May. He just handed it to me, just like that, said it should have been mailed long back, but for some reason was in pickup Q. Whew !

I asked what about surrendering GC, he said, just mail it (he almost bit his tounge to tell me to destroy it). It was that simple.

I feel bad that for some people like Flydog it too so much time. For us it was like 2 1/2 months, but really the certificate was prepared in 23 days.

That is it I am all done with Immigration Issues for my whole family.

Wow! Congratulations!!

No interview or anything? Ah the consistency of the USCIS!

I went for an InfoPass and did an online inquiry, but all I got was "it's in progress". At least now, a year later, we have an "interview" scheduled.

It must feel good to know that you *never* have to deal with the USCIS. No more N-xxx forms, no more InfoPass, no more 800 number. Congratulations again!

I just got the Certificates for my three boys today - after 6 months waiting. Procedure here in Portland, OR, was quite straight forward - they had to sign the certificates and then after about 30 minutes were asked to take the oath - a fairly abreviated process compared to my oath ceremony.

Hmmm... What is "the oath"?

I'm curious what oath they administer. First, it seems odd to administer an oath to a minor. Second, it seems odd to administer an oath to someone who is already a citizen.

I'm hoping that the oath is not the "renounce and abjure" oath that they make N-400 applicants take. N-600 citizenship certificate applicants are already citizens, it's ridiculous to require them to take some oath that other citizens do not need to take.

Well, I'll find out next month
