City name change - Birth place

Happy New Year to Everyone!

I have received an RFE on "birth and parentage". In response to that my parents have made an affidavit that says my place of birth is Kolkata (which was Calcutta one year ago). My I 485 application has "Calcutta" as my birth place. My parents could not make the lawyer change it to Calcutta.

Will INS accept this difference? If any one has similar experience, I would appreciate your ideas/advice.

I'm sort of in the same position - only my I-485 isn't assigned to the office yet ( RD 1/7/2002), so not sure how they will react.
If I were you, together with your affidavit of birth, I'd send a note ( actually translated qoute from the law or regulation or whatever that declared city name changed ) explaining that city name has in fact been changed. I think that should be good enough... if this is the reason they have issued RFE at all - I mean this may have been just simply request for BC...
