I have been living in the US for 5 years on a h1b visa. Am I able to apply for citizenship or do you have to be a permanant residant.

I have been living in the US for 5 years on a h1b visa. Am I able to apply for citizenship or do you have to be a permanant residant.

You have to be a permanent resident for 4.5 years (and satisfy some residency requirements) before you can apply for citizenship. However the citizenship will be granted only after 5 years have expired on PR (GC).
