Citizenship via Green Card or Marriage?

Hi everybody.

I am a green card holder through marriage. Should I apply for citizenship through being married to a US citizen or through having a green card for more than 5 years?

Which method is easier and/or quicker? I know the marriage method includes sending in copies of taxes, etc.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

5 year rule is simpler and safer, unless you have a potentially disqualifying event (such as a conviction or extended travel) within the last 5 years that would fall outside the last 3 years.

Have you started citizenship process? It has been 6 month since you started to be eligible and 9 month since you could apply

Wake up WBH. Where did you get details of rikmac78??? Did you take details in Jackolantern's post and replied !!!!!

I applied for marriage basis but USCIS processed it under 5 year rule. IO specifically told me so during my interview.

Thanks for the info.

We've been married for a decade and by next year I need to either apply for citizenship or renew the green card. Citizenship via the 5 year rule does appear to be less paperwork, so I'll go that route.

No disqualifying issues, though I did get banned for speeding prior to marriage (heavy foot on the gas, but I'm much better and safer now)!!

Thanks again.
