Hi,

I want to share my experience of my interview at Houston INS.

My PD - Nov 13, 2001, FD - Feb 6, 2002, and Interview - May 29, 2002. I applied based on employment GC, after 4 years 9 months after GC date. My interview letter instructed me to bring (i) Interview letter, (ii) Green Card, (iii) Any evidence of Selective Service registration, (iv) passport and any other immigration related documents.

On the interview date, apart from the interview notice, I took my passport, GC, and drivers license. I was scheduled for interview at 9 am and reached around 8:30 am. Finding a parking spot was a big deal. The hall was crowded. There was a blue line to follow, for GC and citizenship interviews. There were two trays - one for GC and another for Naturalization interviews. I dropped my interview letter into the tray per instructions and waited. I was called in after a long wait around 10:45 am. Officer promptly apologized for the delay while taking me to her room. I was asked to take oath to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. I said \'I do\' and took a seat.

She asked me for my passport, drivers license, social security card. I did not have my social security card with me at that time and I told her the same. She said that is fine. I also informed her that I do not have my SSA status letter, as I was over 26 years of age when I entered US for the first time. I was about to mention that I had requested SSA after I had got the interview letter, but till the date of interview I did not receive the letter, but, before saying anything else, she said the letter is not required, and checked the GC date which was when I was over 30 years age. She asked me most of the questions in my application such as - never arrested, terrorist organizations, etc. and I said No. I had traveled to India once after my application and she noted down the dates of exit and entry.

Then she handed me the questions for Civic test. There were ten questions with multiple choice answers and I was told to circle the right answers. She dictated a sentence in English like \'Many people gave their life for the country\'. She checked the answer sheet and said that I have passed. I answered all of them right. INS website has Online testing and that experience was very helpful. All the questions are from the sample 100 questions.

She said she would schedule me for Oath in July. She took me to an outside waiting area, and said that someone will give me a letter for Oath. After another 10 minutes, I received a letter with Oath date of July 30th. Unfortunately they do not have same day Oath in Houston office. Even their next date in June was full. I was out of INS office around 11:25 am.

I hope this helps to many waiting for interview. Good luck.

Thank you!

Congratulations!

Thank you for sharing your interview experience. I’m glad everything worked out well for you and wish you the best.

Regards,
Homa
