Citizenship fingerprinting (Biometrics) appointment

I've read conflicting posts on various websites about getting fingerprints done early (before the appointment date set). Some people say that it doesn't save time/speed up the process by 'walking-in' to get the finger prints done, while others are convinced that it saves the waiting time. Can anyone clarify whether it speeds up/doesn't speed up the process if one 'walks-in' to get the fingerprints done before the appointment date.

Also, secondly, can fingerprints be done at ANY biometrics center (approved by USCIS of course), or does it HAVE to be done at the one on the appointment letter? The reason I ask is that I've also heard that it doesn't matter, though I'm not entirely sure.

Any/All feedback and input is much appreciated.
