Citizenship filing at 4yr 9mns

Hi

I have the following 2 questions:

1. One becomes eligible to file for citizenship after 4yr 9mnths of permanent
residency. But it is true that INS does not pickup that file to process till actual
5 yrs period is completed, evenif the application was filed just after 4yr 9mnths
eligibility.

2. Is it ok to file for Citizenship and then leave US for a short trip of 1 month to India.
Obviously this trip will not be listed in the application as the application is filed
before leaving for the trip. Is it legally ok to do or this could have impact on
Naturalization?

I will be highly obliged if you can advice on the above. On one hand I don't want to lose time in filing for citizenship, on the other I have to make the necessary trip to India. I intend to file and leave for the trip at 4yr 9m eligibility, but if INS won't pickup the application to process it till it's 5yrs, then might as well come back and file. I am in a dilema, your expert guidance is needed.

Regards,

not sure about 1. but what you can do about it anyway? either you submit it 5 yrs - 90 days then if (1) is true, they would wait for 90 days before they pick up your case. or, you wait 90 more days and file. either way the timeline is the same. however, since it is dealing with the priority date, 5yrs - 90 days makes a different than 5 yrs.

2). it shall not affect to your application process. however, you should disclose the information about any trips between the date you submitted the application and the interview during the interview session thou.

i am sure the interview officer would ask because my friend was asked.

That is not true. IMHO, depending on the workload, a service center may schedule your fingerprint date.

They do process apps during the 90 days. So it helps to have early priority date. The trip after filing can be declared in the interview.
