Citizenship Eligibility ?

Dear all,

I have few questions regarding the eligibility for the citizenship to US

I have been a lawful permanent resident since July 2000. But I went to India with the re-entry permit (From the US-INS) for 2 years, came back to US on Oct 2002. Since then I have been here.
Technically I have been here over 5 years now. Also, I have lived here for 3 yrs duration.

Qn. Am I eligible for citizenship now in Oct 2005?

Qn. If No, when will I be?

Qn. What are the documents that I will need for this process?

Qn. When should I apply for the Citizenship?

Qn. How much time does it takes ?

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,
Shiva

You will be elegible to apply for citizenship 4 years + 1 day from the date you came back after your long stay abroad with re-entry permit. Make sure you don't apply even a few days early to risk the rejection of your application. Time to become a citizen varies greatly from where you live and how lucky you get with the name check and other bureaucratic delays. It can take anywhere from 6 months to 2+ years.
