citizenship backlog?

Does anyone know if there's a backlog for citizenship/naturalization applications? In other words, say if your green card was dated 2002 and you applied in 2007, would you be getting your citizenship shortly after or much later?

At least a year

It takes approximately a year for the whole process after you submit your N-400. Name check and securit checks are the major part of delay. Then some people get lucky with quick oath ceremony right after their interview and some have to wait a while. We should make sure that we register for Selective Services if we are required to. Otherwise be able to prove that you didn't have.
Thanks

Doesn't the processing time depend on the area in which the applicant lives? I know that FBI checks and name checks take a long time, but doesn't it also depend on the Local Office's processing time as well? For instance, in some areas/states (like CT or parts of MD & NY) , processing time for N-400 is 6months or less and in others (like VA) it is 12+months.

In any case - CIS is trying to improve the backlogs for most immigration applications (especially N-400) to 6 months or less by end of 2006. Let us see how this works out. I personally don't expect much.

You can apply 90 days earlier.
