Citizenship Application Options for Nearly-18-Year-Old

My parents are just now beginning their citizenship application process. If I understand the system correctly, they would typically go through the entire application process, and when it's done fill out the N-600 form for me, as a minor.

However, by the time they receive their citizenship, I will most likely have turned 18 (about 6 months from now), at which point I will have to fill out an N-400 form, just like they did.

Is my understanding of the situation correct? Or am I overlooking something?
Do I have to be 18 to start the N-400 application process (since I'll have to do it anyway)? Or can I still use the N-600 form even if I've turned 18? Is there anything I/my parents can/should be doing until they've received their citizenship or I've turned 18? Do we just sit tight until then?

Thanks!

Seems like you are pretty much already aware of the process. You would only be able to submit an N-600 if one of your parents manages to take their oath prior to your 18th birthday. After that, the only thing to do is submit your own N-400, but you cannot start that process until you actually turn 18.

Not much to do while waiting - just don't get yourself arrested for anything, especially not a CIMT. e.g. drugs, alcohol, shoplifting!!

Do remember to register for selective services as soon as you turn 18. You'll need the registration number when you fill out your N-400.
