Citizenship application after GC

Hello all, I got my GC in May, 2003. Is there anyway I can apply for citizenship before May, 2007? If yes, then what might the process be? I plan to assist in the family business for a while, and its a pain to maintain the GC status by having to fly to US every 6 months.
Some insight please!

It's 5 years unless you married a citizen. So it's May 2008, not 2007!
Not true.
You could apply for citizenship after 3 years only if you got your GC through marrying an US citizen. Just being married to an US citizen does not help!!

Hi Phillydude,

I was looking at Naturalization guide, and could not find the requirement. All it says is one has to be married to same US citizen for three years. It does not mention about GC. Could you please share where you found this informaiton. Thanks.

sssnayak,

One can in almost all circumstances (except thru executive order or if ur parents were USC and u are claiming their status etc)
be granted USC without holding a valid GC

When to apply for citizenship...

Got my passport stamped on 01/15/2004. I am married to a USC since 07/06/2002 (2 years this July, 2004). When can I apply for citizenship? I know the answer is probably in the previous posts but I thought I'd give this question a shot. ;)

Just found the following which may apply to me:

On page 22 of the Naturalization guide it says that continuous is "Not Required" if I am a spouse of a U.S. citizen who is:

"An employee or an individual under contract to the U.S. Government AND "citizen spouse is working overseas for at least 1 year according to an employment contract or order"

In my case, my wife works for a company that is working on a Government project (specifically, Homeland Security) but she has never worked outside the U.S.

Does this help me any?

JoeF,

Thanks for the quick response. How about my earlier post about the 3 year rule? Do I have to be a PR for 3 years regardless?
