I got my GC thru Marriage in April 2001. I am still waiting on I-751 to get approved. In the meantime I went to the Immigration office for fingerprinting (naturalization) and Passport (PP) stamping.
I could not get my PP stamped, because it was expired. And I have difficulty to extend my PP from my home country.

1- What are the implications if I dont get my PP stamped (the immigration officer told me that it is OK as long as you are not traveling outside the US and your employer is OK with it)

2- Can I get approval for N400 (naturalization) if I have an expired PP.

If you cannot get a passport from your home country you can apply for a Re-entry permit from USCIS that also serves as a passport for people like you.

You Can have your PP renewed from your country's consulate or embassy in the U.S, This should not be a problem.

It is advisable to have the prove of your legal status in your PP for any reason that may arise. It is against the law not to carry prove of your legal status in the U.S .

Thank you folks, But I am not a refugee nor I am leaving the US for more than a year. In this case I dont know if I will be able to apply for the re-entry permit.
thank you again..
