In a recent meeting in Washington DC, the CIS addressed for the first time concerns about the need for an I-602 waiver applications from asylees.
A senior CIS official states that the asylum grant itself would be in most cases sufficient to grant the waiver on humanitarian grounds as long as the misconduct in question was related to the need to flee persecution. According to him, officers at NSC have discretion to approve waivers without even asking for an I-602 from the asylees.
