Now that the CIR is dead , saving us from the point system. Does any one think there will be any new bill introduced to increase GC numbers to eliminate backlogs before elections ?

There was nothing wrong with point-based system. EB3 candidates would benefit the most from it.
On the other hand, there is no need for backlog-reduction legislation - the dates have moved dramatically and I doubt congress will move to help Indians with 3-year degree who applied for GC since 2004. Somehow does not come across as an important issue.

obviously, there are other important issues that need to be addressed. H1b increase, allowing I485 filing even if dates are not current, ability to obtain H1b visa stamp within US, etc. These issues are critical to retain foreign trained talent in STEM field and there were a bunch of bills introduced focusing on these problems.

The dates have moved significantly this Spring. It is very easy to argue that no action is required there.
The recent H1-oriented bills are calling for increased scrutiny, not increased numbers.
