Ciba/All: What do company lawyers do when employee is laid off w/ 485 pending?

There is a strong chance that I will be laid off one month from now. My 485 was filed last month.

My lawyer told me that once I am laid off, they will notify INS about it.

Does anyone know how does this affect my pending 485 and how fast CSC processes such notifications? If they take a couple of months to void my 485, it might take me to the 180 day threshold and I can then use EAD to accept other employment...

Does anyone knows how do lawyers usually proceed in such cases. My company-paid lawyer would not discuss this any further :(

Any help is appreciated and will definitely help a lot of others like me.

Thanks!

I am sorry for your situation, but the best thing will be to start looking for job from this point onward. If you think you can streach your layoff for 180 days beyond your I-485 filing then its another issue. I don\'t think INS will take that long to discard the application.
I hope things fall right for you. Good luck for everything.

If you have EAD approval, you are still in a better situation....however the best way to handle this is to go on a prolonged leave.....

USTechWorker,

As I understand it, you will have to start the whole process from the beginning
if your AOS is pending for less than 180 days. The first thing you should do
in this kind of situation is to look for a job quickly. Meanwhile, stay as long
as possible with the current company so that your AOS can be stretched pass
180 days.

It is a terrible situation to deal with when enconomy is not doing well.
