I am a naturalized US Citizen and my husband is a permanent citizen. He has applied his N-400 last month. We are expecting a baby in December. We want to have the baby in India. We want to submit Consular Report of Birth Abroad at chennai consulate.
I have looked on the consulate website http://usembassy.state.gov/chennai/wwwhacscrba.html )and found that the Citizen parent will need to show five years of physical presence in the U.S. Does that mean I need to stay in US 5 years after I attained my citizenship? I got my citizenship in August 2004.
Also I need to know what kind of evidence I have to produce to prove my stay in US?
Thanks for ur help in advance

I dont know of your reasons ot have a baby in India but if you want your child ot be a US citizen the best and safest way is to have a child born here in US. Who knows what the politicians will do to the laws and privileges of naturalized citizens. Being born provides certain rights that cannot be taken away no matter what. Your suffering for few months will provide lifetime gaurantee and peace of mind to your child. My 2 cents.

A child born to a US Citizen parent (who have met US residency requirements) outside the US are US Citizens, and are not considered naturalized. There is no oath ceremony for such kids.

If i understand the wording correctly, it says

"Proof of parents' residence in the U.S. (For children born to one U.S. citizen and one foreign national, the U.S. citizen parent will need to show five years of physical presence in the U.S., two of which must be after the age of 14. For children born to two U.S. citizen parents, one parent must have resided in the U.S. at any time prior to the child's birth.)"

Nothing that says that you have to be a US citizen for 5 years...
