Child under 14

Is it possible to apply for my passport & for my son(under 14) at the same time, or it is a sequential process.

We couldn't figure out how to do it in parallel (after asking at three post offices). So we went sequential (daughter then mother, both expedited).

Someone recently said that they were able to do it in parallel. No sure how
