Child education outside US

Hi Joef or Immi gurus,

My family got GC stamped very recently, i.e., last week. I am planning to send my child( who has GC) to India to study in a montessory school. The school mgmt claims that there are a number of children( GC holders) studying in that school.

I need suggestions on the process or warnings on the consequences.

If I send her there, it is not possible for her to bring here every 6 months.

Do I need to take any special permission from INS for that?

-First of all I don't want to live here for ever. May be after 5-6 years I want to leave this country for good and settle down some town in India. At that time, I don't want to get a negation from my child to come to India

- I feel the staring age of education ( 5years+)in America is ridiculous. I storngly feel that 4+ years is the right time to start the real education for a child. This is the time of getting interest in books and studies. I need to wait for another year to put her in KG in US.

-In India children start their KG at around 3.5. So they will be studying their 10standard at the age of 15. If my child starts her education next september, she will be 18 by the time of completion of her 10 standard. If she does that here in US, it is fine. But if she moves with me to India( as is the case), there will be a lot of psychological concerns, which she needs to face.

-I am worried about the social environment in some parts of US. I feel probability for addictions in US( esecially places like California) is more than in India. The risk is almost null in India

-I am also worried about the culture here in teens. I accept the conecpt that 'live as a roman when you are in rome'. But you don't believe one thing. No Indian wants to keep his/her female child in her teens here in US. We were nurtured and brought up in very conservative( a lot different from US conservatism) environment. I may wish to lose my life but not the values taught in my childhood. ( To be honest, I am not aginst love or lovers or love marriages. But my mind cannot accept the alternative life style(s)


-In India, schools teach a lot of mathematics. Most of the times, mathematics is the base of the Indian education. I heard( to be honest only heard) that an average US child is very weak in Mathematics.


-Last but not least. With or without a reason, we made our mind to leave our child in India for her better education.


I am asking whether it is possible to put her in India without losing her status as a green card holder.

My thoughts:

(1) If you want to leave the states, better leave after you work
for 10 years otherwise you forfeit SS retire benefits. Of course,
it is good for others who want to stay. SO for the sake of
others who want to stay in the USA, we should encourage
as many as possible to leave teh states after working
only for 9 years :) so that all their money go to our benefits.

(2) education is not exact science. No education method
can guarantee a child's future success (sucess for what
anyway?). I think it is too hard on kids to push them too
hard. In America, ordinary people have better quality of
life than in many third world countries so that people
haere have the luxury of not having to push their
kids too hard. Even if a kid grow up to end up being
a janitor, he can still have a relative comfortable material
life. He does not need to be a lawyer, an engineer, a
doctor to get that.

(3) I always heard that math education is weak here.
But it means strong math is not that important.
With powerful computing capabilities, one does not
need to have strong math ability to survive. Let
software do the dirty work. Of course, the society
always need some good math talents no matter what
but I don't see America lack that because a few nerds
always menage to study math well even though the
majority do not master math well.

(4) America is still a big math country. Look at how many
papers are published by American professors. This also
applies to other branches of science. Every year some
Americans win Nobel prizes. Many people always say
that is because America import talents but if you
visit a math department in any American university,
you'll still find many native born professors.
I personally think studying too well in grade and high school
may permanently damage a kid's poetntial in later times.
In my home country, I see alot of good high school students
spend too much time trying to figure out all tricky geometry
problems, But I fail to see any use of such skills either
in real life or acedemic actitivies.

(5) Kids in America spend more time on video games so that
when they grow up, they are better at operating instrucments
such jet fighters, radar, submarines etc.

(6) Finally, it is always a personal choice.

If you believe that a child should be physically
punished for his/her behavior, then you have more
incentives to give up the green card. Maybe you
don't have to give it up. Just slap the child as this
Indianna woman Madelyne Gorman Toogood did ,
get on the national TV and then get deported even
if you can get away from criminal charges.
