Child birth outside the US

Hello,
We are expecting our first baby in Apr '06. Just wondering what are the problems if the child is delivered outside the US. We prefer the baby to be born in the US, but parents and relatives back home insist that it be born in India.

Can someone help me understand the difficulties that might arise if we choose to give birth in India?

Thnx,
Piske

From immigration point of view, the child will get a permanent resident status (at the POE) if one of the parent is PR and is accompanying the child when the child first visits the US (there is limit on the # of days the baby can stay outside the US after its born for it to be eligible).

If the parents are already US Citizens, the child derives the US Citizenship from its parents.

I thought that there was a requirement for the citizen parent to have lived in the US for five years after turning 15.

If the child is born in the US, he/she has a shot at being the President of the US. Leaving that aside, born citizen will have a US birth certificate and passport from the time he/she is born. No dealing with the USCIS, now that should be an incentive enough!
