Chicago local office

Guys,
   do any one know how long it will take to get a interview call from chicago local INS office. I heard that they will take 18-24 months for interview. I canot believe that?

I\'m in the same boat, I was wondering if we can just go there, stand in the line and get the passport stamped. At least, that\'s what the notice says.
